Bee Cycle Bike Rack

Artist Statement

Since 2009 my painting process has included beeswax. I've always been amazed at the work involved to create both beeswax and honey and how important bees are to our food supply. Just as the bike racks promote a healthier lifestyle, I want to tie into that, the importance of bees and what they mean to our environment. They're not only important to our livelihood, they represent a community that works together and makes a difference. I see the same thing happening in the communities of Nashville.

About Randy Purcell

Randy L Purcell is a mixed media artist based in the Middle Tennessee area who received his BFA in Studio Art at MTSU. He has specialized in his unique style of encaustic paintings which involves transferring the ink from recycled magazines onto a thin layer of beeswax. The result of this process is a mosaic-like field of color and imagery that makes up a larger image of familiar subjects.
