Celebrating 100 Years of Old Hickory

Old Hickory, Council District 11

For Old Hickory’s 100th birthday, Dawn and Creighton Irons are to create and perform an original musical about the founding of the town in collaboration with youth from the community. The writing of the musical will begin at a week-long camp in October 2017 over the MNPS Fall Break. They will also being interviewing older residents and use transcriptions of those previously conducted by local historian Kris Brummet as primary source material. Their story will center around Earlene Jenkins, a living Old Hickory resident born in 1918, the DuPont factory's first year of operation. Once the show is created, they will cast the production with members of all ages from the community.
