Nashville 5-Shot Shorts Project
Mid-Town/Vanderbilt/ West End areas in districts 18 and 6
Jama Mohamed was awarded $4000 to collaborate with the TN Disability Coalition and filmmaker Kelly O’Brien to host a workshop on visual storytelling for parents of children with disabilities or people who themselves have disabilities. The artist will visit the homes of these parents or individuals personally to teach the basics of creating a 5-shot video. On each visit using my equipment they will direct their own 5 shot film. The community will come together at the Belcourt Theatre on March 7, 2017 from 4:00 pm - 9:30 pm, to watch and discuss what they have created. Following the workshop, Kelly O’Brien’s film, “Softening: Loving a Child with Special Needs" alongside his own shorter work "The Big Pull". The community will have a dialogue with the audience about the filmmaking process, and also screen the "Nashville 5 Shot Shorts".
