Metro Management Institute (MMI) has over 900 Graduates
The Metropolitan Management Institute (MMI) is an educational partnership
of The University of Tennessee and Metro’s Human Resources training division. This certificate program is designed for managers, supervisors, and individuals who are about to be promoted to a supervisory position. MMI consists of 40 hours of instruction and must be completed within 12 months. In April of this year, 237 Metro employees will graduate from MMI bringing the total number of graduates to 943 since 2003. The Mayor presents the certificates at a graduation ceremony each year.
Metro ITS Implements Internal Recognition Program
In an effort to increase employee morale, the Information Technology Services Department has created the ITS Recognition Committee. This committee has asked the employees of ITS to submit emails pertaining to specific instances of other ITS employees going above and beyond the requirements of their job descriptions. This committee has made a presence in the monthly ITS Department meetings for the last 8 months, by openly recognizing each employee whose name and story were submitted by their fellow co-workers. These employees are awarded with a recognition pin, their name, photo and story posted in the trophy case in the hallway of ITS, and a Department-wide email. One lucky employee, decided by random draw, is awarded the ITS Director's parking spot from the following day, until the day of the next monthly meeting. The "Best in show" award is awarded monthly to the employee with the best recognition, earning them the right to choose a prize from the Recognition Committee's award closet. It is worth noting that all funding for this committee was provided by the employees of the ITS Department themselves.
New Strategic Management Training for Managers in RM departments
The Office of Management and Budget, in partnership with Human Resources, launched a new strategic management training program this year for front-line managers in Results Matter departments. The seven-week program focuses on using strategic business plans, performance management and performance data to deliver results more effectively. The process includes classroom instruction, small group activities, presentations, case studies and individual action plans.
Each manager who completes the training successfully will receive 20 hours of CPE credit and will be recognized at a certificate presentation ceremony with Mayor Bill Purcell.
