AD&D Insurance
Active employees are automatically eligible for accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. The amount of this benefit is the same as your basic life coverage — $50,000.
AD&D insurance pays a benefit if you are injured in an accident and, as a direct result, lose your life or suffer the complete loss of a hand, foot, hearing, or speech or become quadriplegic. To qualify for a benefit, the loss (death or dismemberment) must occur within 120 days of the accident.
AD&D insurance supplements basic life insurance. In other words, if you die as the result of an accident, your beneficiary(ies) will receive an AD&D benefit in addition to your life insurance benefit under the plan.
