Pre-Existing Conditions
A pre-existing condition is a physical or mental condition, whether or not diagnosed or misdiagnosed, for which you have done or for which a reasonably prudent person would have:
- consulted a physician or other licensed medical professional, or
- received medical treatment, service or advice, or
- undergone diagnostic procedures, including self-administered procedures, or
- took prescription drugs or medications
If you have a pre-existing condition in the 90 days before you enroll in STD insurance, you may not be eligible for benefits for that condition for 12 months after the effective date of your coverage. After 12 months of continuous coverage, the pre-existing condition is waived. If you have a pre-existing medical condition, talk to a carrier representative before enrolling.
