Salary System

The Metropolitan Government has basic pay plans covering most of it's  full time employees.There are three  lists of classifications in the current pay plan. General Government  - Public Safety - Health Non-Professional  These classification lists contain various salary ranges depending on classification.  See the pay plans above on the right.

Most of the plans include scheduled steps. Employees are typically hired at the first step and progress through the salary range with acceptable performance.  The Open Range plan includes a minimum and maximum salary only, and employees may be compensated anywhere in the range, depending on performance as budgets allow. Open Range pay plan covers certain professional positions such as Attorneys, Engineers, Planners, Information Systems and all Classes above a certain level of type and grade.

  • Standard Range (SR) plan includes professional, administrative, technical and clerical positions.
  • Public Safety (PS) plan covers sworn police and fire/emergency services positions.
  • Trades and Labor (TLS) plan covers blue collar jobs.
  • Correctional Officer (CO) plan covers Correctional Officers.
  • Emergency Telecommunications (ET) plan covers Emergency Telecommunications positions.
  • Special Pays covers Public Defender's Office (PD), Mayor (MM), Vice Mayor (VM), Council Members (CM), Judicial Assistants (JS), Departmental Directors (DP), School Crossing Guards (SP) and School Crossing Guard Supervisors (SS).
