MyCity Academy 2017 Course Information

MyCity Academy seeks to connect the New American community with various branches of Metro Nashville government. Participants meet once a month from March until September to discuss and learn more about themes ranging from public safety to economic development in Nashville.

Public Works & Infrastructure Session Video

Healthy Living, Social Services, and Transit in Nashville

An overview of some of the departments that help Nashvillians live healthy lives: Metro Parks and Recreation, Metro Transit Authority, Social Services, and the Health Department

  • Thursday, May 18, 9:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Metro Council, Courts System, and Civic Engagement

An overview of the Metro Council, as well as information from the offices of the Metro Clerk, Elections Commission, an overview of Boards and Commissions, the Juvenile Court, and Legal Department. This session will also include an explanation of the criminal justice system from representatives of the Public Defender's Office and the District Attorney's Office.

Education and Student Opportunities

An overview from representatives of Metro Nashville Public Schools of programs available to students and parents. Information will be provided about youth-related programs throughout the city.

Public Safety

Question-and-answer sessions with leaders from the Police Department, the Fire Department, and the Sheriff's Office. This session will also include an overview of Emergency Management and Response.

Economic Development, Tourism, and Finance

Presentations about the Metro budget process and the tax system; Discussion of community and economic development initiatives throughout the city.
