Programs and Initiatives Mayor Dean teaching class

Mayor Dean has challenged the city to be bold and think outside the box to find creative solutions to the problems standing in the way of every student receiving the best education possible and the chance to succeed in career and life. A few examples of some of the Mayor's most innovative ideas include:

  • Combining the resources of the city's Public Library with school libraries to form Limitless Libraries, which gives public school students access to over 1.5 million library items through direct delivery to their schools
  • Creating a network of high-quality, free after school programs for at-risk students during their middle school years, which is known to be a critical time for determining whether or not a student will go on to graduate from high school
  • Forming a partnership between Metro Schools, Police and Juvenile Court to proactively address truancy with the Metro Student Attendance Center, which has helped reduce the truancy rate in Metro Schools by over 45 percent
