EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 015

THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY

SUBJECT: Comprehensive Internet and electronic mail use policy

I, Karl Dean, Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do hereby amend former Mayor Purcell Executive Order No. 013 and find, direct and order the following:

I. The Metropolitan Government needs a comprehensive Internet and electronic mail (e-mail) policy to provide direction to employees who use the Internet and the Metropolitan Government’s e-mail system while at work:

II. Tennessee Code Annotated § 10-7-512 requires the Metropolitan Government to adopt a written policy governing e-mail monitoring.

III. The attached Internet and Electronic Mail Use Policy (the “Policy”) fulfills both of the objectives stated above and shall apply to all employees.

IV. The Policy shall be distributed to all Metropolitan Government employees who use computers owned by or linked to the Metropolitan Government’s computer network. All such employees shall execute the acknowledgement that is attached to the Policy to certify that they have received and are familiar with the Policy.

V. The heads of all Metropolitan Government departments, agencies and commissions shall distribute the Policy to their current and future employees and assure that their employees execute the acknowledgement.
