Resolution RS2018-1004

(Adopted 01/02/2018) A resolution recognizing Mike and Cheryl Williams for their contributions to the Boy Scouts of America and the Nashville community.

WHEREAS, as involved Scout parents and registered leaders through the Middle Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), Mike and Cheryl Williams have served the youth of Nashville since 2003, beginning with Cub Scout Pack 32 at Eakin Elementary School and serving up to the present in BSA Troop 17 at Blakemore United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Mike and Cheryl have been instrumental to the success of Troop 17’s annual Christmas tree sale which teaches Scouts the value of thrift and hard work, and provides financial stability for the troop; and

WHEREAS, Mike and Cheryl have been supportive and active in national BSA High Adventure Bases around the country, preparing Troop 17 for a wide range of activities including backpacking in New Mexico, scuba diving in Florida, and canoeing in Minnesota and Ontario; and

WHEREAS, with their influence and guidance, a large percentage of the Scouts in Troop 17 have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and Mike and Cheryl have been heavily involved in several of these projects that have directly improved the city of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, going beyond what is expected of Scout parents and leaders, Mike and Cheryl illustrate that Scouting values extend to all aspects of life; and

WHEREAS, Mike and Cheryl demonstrate unparalleled humility and kindness and are always willing to take on significant responsibilities whenever called upon; and

WHEREAS, Mike and Cheryl regularly encourage and model the importance of character, citizenship, and personal fitness to the Scouts of Pack 32 and Troop 17, which in turn demonstrates the principle aims of the Scouting program.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and honoring Mike and Cheryl Williams for their contributions to the Boy Scouts of America and the city of Nashville.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mike and Cheryl Williams.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
