Parthenon Symposium Nemea and the Panhellenic Sanctuary of Zeus
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Although almost everyone in the world is aware that today’s Olympic Games have their origin in the quadrennial games of Olympia, Greece, many people do not know that other sanctuaries in ancient Greece also hosted games. Nemea is one such site. Dr. Kim Shelton’s lecture on Thursday, March 30th, will present the Sanctuary of Zeus at Nemea and the history of the pan-Hellenic festival and games celebrated there from the 6th to the 2nd centuries BCE.
