Ten-Month-Old Child Fatally Wounded by Parent

3/14/2013

March 14, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Detectives investigating tonight’s fatal shooting of a 10-month-old child at the Extended Stay America motel at 2511 Elm Hill Pike do not believe it was an intentional act.

Adam Bass suffered a gunshot wound to his chest at 6:40 p.m.  The preliminary investigation shows that Adam’s father, Larry Bass, 30, was handling his semi-automatic pistol inside the family’s room when it discharged.  Also present at the time were Larry Bass’ wife Jacquelin, 28, and their two other sons, who are ages 3 and 2.

Two Hermitage Precinct detectives were very close to the motel when the call went out at 6:42 p.m.  They were on the scene within approximately three minutes and administered CPR in an effort to save the child.  They were not successful.  Adam died at the scene.

The family is from Texas.  Larry Bass is an iron worker who has been doing work at the Music City Center site.  The investigation will continue during the night as detectives work with the distraught parents to understand exactly how the shooting occurred.
