FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The man killed in this morning’s single-vehicle crash on 21st Avenue at Broadway is identified as Terry Lee Ford, 55, of Arbor Creek Way.
Ford was driving his Honda Insight on 21st Avenue without his headlights on and traveling 46 m.p.h. in a 30 m.p.h. zone when a West Precinct officer attempted to stop him at 3:15 a.m. The officer activated his blue lights but Ford did not stop. Ford continued at about the same speed for approximately three tenths of a mile before losing control where 21st Avenue turns into Broadway. The car struck a brick planter and went airborne before coming to rest in a parking garage. Ford, who was wearing his seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
There was no physical evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene. It is unclear what caused Ford to lose control. The medical examiner will conduct toxicology testing to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
