FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Youth Services detectives continue to investigate whether Sunday night’s shooting of an 11-year-old boy inside his home in the 1700 block of 10th Avenue North was an accident.
The child initially reported that he was riding his bike when he was shot. He later told detectives that he and a teenage family friend were handling a pistol when it discharged. He was struck in his upper right leg at 9:45 p.m. Detectives are working to locate and talk to the friend. He was not present when police arrived on the scene. The gun has not been recovered.
The 11-year-old’s grandmother was in another room of the house when the shooting occurred.
