Three Persons Charged with Friday's Drug-Related Shooting on Moore Avenue
October 5, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
South Precinct detectives this morning charged three persons in connection with Friday afternoon’s shooting of 18-year-old Matthew Ryan Harris during a drug-related robbery outside Harris’ Moore Avenue home.
The investigation by Detective Joseph Haislip shows that 23-year-old Terrell Matthews, 21-year-old Kimberly Booker and 17-year-old Justin Booker came to Harris’ residence in a black Chevrolet Tahoe as part of a marijuana transaction. When Harris joined the trio inside the vehicle, Matthews is alleged to have pulled a gun on him. During a struggle, Harris was shot in the shoulder and Matthews in the leg. One of Harris’ relatives heard the shots and came outside to find Matthews physically on top of Harris. That relative hit Matthews in the head with a hammer in defense of Harris. While this was taking place, Kimberly and Justin Booker fled in the Tahoe. Another of Harris’ relatives, who has a handgun carry permit, held Matthews at gunpoint until police arrived.
Harris and Matthews were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening wounds. Matthews was released during the night. Harris was admitted.
Subsequent investigation led to the recovery of the Tahoe and the arrest of Kimberly and Justin Booker.
All three defendants are charged with especially aggravated robbery. Matthews and Kimberly Booker are being held in lieu of $100,000 bond each. Justin Booker is charged at Juvenile Court.
