FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A man who caught the eye of Central Precinct officers Sunday night for trespassing at a business on Broadway turned out to be an alleged bank robber from Illinois.
Derrick W. Holmes, 23, a transient who was sitting in a window at 300 Broadway with a guitar, was approached by Officers Audrey Fellingham and Tyler Hutton and reminded that a no trespassing sign is posted at the building. The officers did a routine computer check of Holmes’ name, resulting in notification that he was wanted by the FBI for an armed bank robbery on September 26th in Freeport, Illinois. Holmes was arrested on a charge of being a fugitive from justice. He is now in federal custody awaiting transfer back to Illinois.
