October 10, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A several week investigation into the lucrative distribution of high-grade marijuana in Davidson and Rutherford Counties led to Tuesday night’s arrest of five persons, one in Nashville and four in Murfreesboro, and the subsequent seizure of more than $43,000 cash. Also seized were 16 pounds of high grade marijuana with a street value in excess of $70,000.
Over the past few months, Metro Narcotics Unit detectives received information that
Nashvillian Vilaykone Phommavongsa, 34, of 1414 Timber Valley Drive, was involved in distributing large amounts of high-grade marijuana. Surveillance indicated that one of Phommavongsa’s alleged marijuana sources was located in Murfreesboro, resulting in a joint MNPD-Murfreesboro Police Department drug investigation.
On Tuesday, undercover Metro detectives followed Phommavongsa as he drove his BMW to 1629 Antebellum Drive in Murfreesboro. Officers ultimately saw him leave carrying a package. Phommavongsa was stopped for a traffic violation as he crossed back into Davidson County. The package in the BMW was found to contain five pounds of high- grade marijuana. Phommavongsa was arrested on a charge of marijuana possession for resale.
Surveillance continued on Antebellum Drive. A man identified as Felix Wong, 29, of California, arrived, stayed a short time and then drove away. He was stopped by police and was found to be carrying $21,800 cash. Wong was already known to law enforcement in regard to a separate case. Earlier this year, he was stopped at Nashville International Airport by DEA Task Force agents carrying more than $117,000 cash. Wong was not arrested that day, but the money was seized.
Following the vehicle stop of Wong Tuesday night, Murfreesboro Police executed a search warrant at 1629 Antebellum Drive. Recovered were eleven pounds of high grade marijuana and $8,500 cash. An additional $13,000 was seized from bank accounts on Wednesday.
Wong and three other persons inside the Antebellum Drive residence were arrested by Murfreesboro Police and are charged in Rutherford County with marijuana possession with intent to distribute. The remaining defendants are identified as Khamsy Thammavong, 42, David Tran, 30, and Nick Mouthouta, 23, all of Murfreesboro.
