Metro Public Works Winter Operations Prepared for Icy Weather

December 9, 2013

Road Crews Applying Brine to Bridges and Overpasses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro Public Works Winter Operations Crews will be treating bridges and overpasses throughout the county with brine this afternoon. This mixture helps prevent surfaces from freezing quickly.

Public Works staff will continue to monitor the latest weather information and will respond in a timely and efficient manner to roadway needs due to inclement weather. Salt trucks are fueled and loaded and crews are on standby. Salt crews are dispatched once radar data indicates precipitation is imminent and road temperatures are at or approaching 32 degrees. If crews are dispatched, additional information will be released.

During winter weather conditions, motorists should check road conditions before getting out on the roads and allow extra space between vehicles, so there is adequate distance for braking in wet and icy conditions.
