December 27, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A tip to Crime Stoppers and follow up investigation by Hermitage Precinct detectives led to the identification of Chance D. Mayfield as the suspected gloved burglar who stole cash, a camera and two laptop computers from Hermitage Church of the Nazarene in the early morning hours of December 23rd.
Mayfield, 25, was taken into custody tonight at his 226 Harpers Mill Road residence. He is charged with burglary and is being held in the Metro Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
Unbeknownst to Mayfield, a concealed surveillance camera inside a church office captured clear images of him as he rummaged about looking for things to steal during the 3:20 a.m. burglary. Calls to Crime Stoppers began coming in after media outlets disseminated the surveillance photographs.
Mayfield has prior convictions for domestic assault, drug possession without a prescription, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and driving on a revoked license.
Detectives continue to investigate his potential involvement in other crimes.
