December 30, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The driver of the Honda coupe involved in this morning’s crash on Bell Road that critically injured a passenger is now jailed on charges of DUI and driving without a license.
Juan Carmona Garcia, 28, of Antioch, was behind the wheel when the Honda ran off the right side of Bell Road near Mt. View Road at 1:05 a.m., struck an MTA bus stop sitting station and overturned. The passenger, Omar Garcia, 23, was critically injured and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Juan Garcia sustained minor injuries. He smelled of alcohol and showed indicators of impairment. A blood sample was drawn from Juan Garcia for alcohol analysis by the crime laboratory.
Metro police officers strongly urge Nashvillians and our visitors to avoid getting behind the wheel if New Year celebrations involve alcohol. Officers will staff a sobriety checkpoint tonight on West End Avenue. Officers will also be watching closely for impaired and/or aggressive drivers on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
