Grandfather Charged with Shooting Grandson on Lynwood Avenue

January 26, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A family dispute between a man and his grandfather resulted in gunfire early today at their 751 Lynwood Avenue home.
Thomas Lamont Johnson, 33, is in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The investigation by Domestic Violence Division detectives shows that Johnson and his grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Teague, 83, argued over Johnson crashing a vehicle that was purchased for him by his grandparents.  Johnson left the home for a short time after the initial argument.  When he returned, Teague is alleged to have fired two shots, one of which struck Johnson.
Teague is charged with attempted criminal homicide and unlawful gun possession.  He is being held in lieu of $800,000 bond pending a hearing later in the week.
Johnson is a convicted felon with a lengthy arrest history who is presently on probation for aggravated assault.  He is alleged to have threatened acquaintances with a shotgun during the night leading to this morning’s issuance of three aggravated assault arrest warrants, which remain outstanding.
