No Foul Play Suspected in Overnight Death of Shawn Ahearn

February 20, 2014

South Precinct detectives investigating this morning’s death of Shawn Ahearn have received information that he appeared drunk, had taken multiple Valium pills and injected himself with heroin Wednesday evening.
Ahearn, 24, of Spring Hill, was brought to Southern Hills Medical Center shortly after midnight by friends he had been visiting on Yelton Court.  The three friends stayed at the hospital for a time.  They returned to the Yelton Court apartment to retrieve Ahearn’s phone and wallet.  Two of the friends then returned to the hospital.
Detectives were told that Ahearn arrived at the apartment at 11 p.m., was obviously drunk and stated that he had taken several Valium pills earlier in the night.  Witnesses said Ahearn became unresponsive soon after injecting himself with heroin he brought with him.  His three friends carried him to a vehicle and transported him to Southern Hills.
A subsequent police search of the apartment revealed several items of drug paraphernalia consistent with heroin use.  However, no illegal drugs were found in the residence.
There is no evidence of foul play in Ahearn’s death.  The Medical Examiner’s Office will await the results of toxicology testing before ruling on the exact cause.
