Pedestrian Struck in Bellevue Remains Hospitalized

June 3, 2014

A pedestrian struck by a minivan while attempting to cross Old Hickory Boulevard in Bellevue Monday night is in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Patrick Nelson Jr., 69, was attempting to cross the street from his apartment complex toward a grocery store when he was hit by a Nissan Quest minivan driven by Rose Carroll, 68, of Bellevue.  Carroll was turning left from the grocery store parking lot onto Old Hickory Boulevard when Nelson was struck.  It is unknown why Carroll didn’t see Nelson, although that location is congested with four travel lanes and a turn lane.  Carroll showed no indication of impairment.
Nelson was crossing outside of a crosswalk.  The nearest crosswalk was approximately 400 feet from the collision.
No charges have been placed.  The investigation is continuing.
