Last Weekend's Operation Safer Streets Initiative Netted 39 Arrests

Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place on Friday and Saturday, resulted in 39 arrests involving 34 misdemeanors, three felonies, 12 warrants served. Seized were eleven grams of marijuana, one gram of heroin, two grams of cocaine, 22 pills and one gun.
At least twice a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the seven precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, four supervisors and 12 patrol officers. Areas targeted were McGavock Pike, the 2700 block of Murfreesboro Pike, 28th Avenue North at Charlotte Pike, Charles E. Davis Boulevard, Delway Villa Road, and Lafayette Street.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of four SID detectives, four supervisors, 23 patrol officers and two canine officers. Areas targeted were Gallatin Pike, Webster Street, Cleveland Street, Clarksville Pike, 26th Avenue North, South 5th Street, Taylor Street, Shelby Avenue, and South 4th Street.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,236 arrests on 82 felony charges and 1,152 misdemeanor charges, 16 gun seizures, the service of 388 outstanding warrants, 186 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 6,672 vehicle stops in areas with a gang presence.
