Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Claims Nashville Man
August 9, 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The man killed in a two-vehicle crash this morning on Interstate 40 near the I-65 split is identified as Michael Giles, 47, of Electric Avenue.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Giles was driving his 1997 Nissan Quest minivan east on I-40 when, for reasons unknown, he left the roadway and collided with the rear of a parked tractor trailer driven by Mengesha Haile, 35, of Lilborn, Georgia. Haile was stopped on the shoulder, several feet off the Interstate, due to mechanical problems. He had placed reflective triangle warning signs behind the trailer and was standing in front when it was struck. Haile was not injured. Giles died on the scene.
There was evidence of drug involvement on the part of Giles. Blood testing will be conducted.
