Man Hit by Security Worker in October Outside Nightclub Dies

A man punched in the face by a security worker while on the ground outside Jazzy’s Restaurant & Lounge on Hampton Street in the early morning hours of October 15th died at a local hospital Christmas night. The death of Shamar J. Davis, 20, is being classified as a homicide.
The investigation shows that Davis was being escorted out of the club by security personnel when he punched one of them in the face and was thrown to the ground. Security worker Lamar D. Clay, 31, is alleged to have jumped on top of Davis while he was down and punched him in the face. Davis suffered a head injury and did not recover.
Clay, of Meridian Street, was arrested November 17th on a charge of attempted criminal homicide. He is presently free on bond. Detectives will be discussing upgrading the charge with the District Attorney’s Office.
