Seay Foundation provides scholarships for fire sciences and research for cures to ALS and COPD.

The IAFF Local 140 Nashville Fire Hockey Team made a donation of $4,000 to the James Edward Seay Jr. Scholarship Fund at Nashville Fire Department Headquarters on Wednesday.

The James Edward Seay Jr. Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization that awards scholarships to first responders (Firefighters/EMT), and Research students studying pathological human chronic diseases (ALS, COPD, cancer, etc.).

The scholarship is named in honor of District Chief James E. Seay Jr. who served the Nashville Fire Department for more than 34 years, saving and protecting lives while his life was heading into an unforeseen spiral of two diseases, ALS and COPD.

District Chief Seay passed away in October 2013.

The IAFF Local 140 Nashville Fire Hockey Team competes in hockey tournaments across the country and raises money for non-profit organizations across Middle Tennessee. The players skate to remember & honor fallen fire, EMS and police personnel.

The hockey team raised the money for the donation through the sale of the team’s Smashville T-Shirts.
