Jefferson Street Public Meeting Planned Next Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An evening public meeting is scheduled next Tuesday to update the community regarding corridor and intersection improvements planned along Jefferson Street between 8th Avenue and 28th Avenue.

WHO: Officials from Metro Public Works; the Metropolitan Development & Housing Agency (MDHA); Neel-Schaffer; EDGE Planning, Landscape Architecture and Graphic Design; and the Jefferson Street United Merchants Partnership (JUMP)

WHAT: Project update on various components of proposed improvements along Jefferson Street, including:

  • Gateway to Heritage Landscape Improvements
  • Heritage Plaza @ Jefferson and the I-40 interchange
  • Jefferson Street Corridor Improvements
  • Intersection Improvements at 21st and 28th Avenues

WHEN: 5:30-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011

WHERE: Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, 1035 14th Avenue North

A variety of projects are being planned along the Jefferson Street Corridor as a multi-phase initiative to provide updated pedestrian amenities and create new economic development opportunity in North Nashville.

In addition to the Gateway to Heritage Streetscape Project being designed at the intersection of Jefferson and Interstate 40, vehicular and pedestrian improvements are planned at key intersections and along the length of Jefferson Street between 8th Avenue and 28th Avenue.

Phase I of Gateway to Heritage Plaza is supported through a federally-funded enhancement grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation with matching funds from Metro Government. Funding for streetscape amenities and intersection upgrades are being provided by the federal American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA), MDHA and Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), respectively.
