The Centennial lasted just six months and within two years all of the buildings of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition were moved or dismantled, except for the Parthenon and the History Building. The buildings were temporary and never intended to last. When it came time to tear down the Parthenon, the people of Nashville refused. The plaster Parthenon remained on the Centennial grounds for 23 years.
