Tools for Education

There are many tools throughout the Parthenon site than can be utilized in the classroom. The Dictionary, Parthenon Facts, and Tour pages provide text and images that are both educational and entertaining.

In addition, the following documents provide further details and information about the Parthenon, Athena, and the Greek culture. These documents are in PDF format and require Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing. This software is free and can be downloaded by following the link at the bottom of this page.

  • Athena Parthenos -An annotated photograph of the Athena Parthenos statue recreated by Alan Lequire is presented along with brief histories of the ancient and modern versions of this statue.
  • The Acropolis - A perspective view with descriptions of the Acropolis.
  • Temple Design - A description is given of ancient Greek temple design in general as well as a focus on the Parthenon. Floor plans are illustrated.
  • Measurements of the Parthenon - The dimensions of the Parthenon are discussed in detail.
  • The East Pediment - A photograph of a model of the East Pediment is described in detail.
  • The West Pediment - A photograph of a model of the West Pediment is described in detail.
  • Pottery Painting - Greek pottery painting is explored through descriptions, illustrations, and an image to decorate.
  • Puzzle - Athena's Word Search. Eliminate the words listed to find the hidden phrase.
