Residential Waste and Recycling Facilities

We receive over 1,800 calls a year to clean up illegally dumped waste and litter. Illegal dumping is an ongoing and highly visible problem.

Residents can legally dispose of waste by calling us at (615) 862-8750 to schedule a bulk item pick up, or visiting one of our Convenience Centers.

Public Works Prepares to Open 4th Convenience Center on Ezell Pike

The new center will offer residents in the southern part of Nashville more convenient access to recycling and Household Hazardous Waste Disposal.

Conceptual Layout

  • Metro Public Works has partnered with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office to locate a fourth convenience center on Ezell Pike located at 3254 Ezell Pike in Nashville. This location offers residents in the Southern part of Nashville more convenient access to services including recycling and household hazardous waste disposal.
  • This convenience center will host Nashville's second household hazardous waste facility. Metro Nashville is the only city or county in the state with multiple household hazardous waste facilities. Metro's Household hazardous waste facilities are open 7 days/week for convenience access.
  • This additional convenience center will accept brush and leaves for recycling. Other brush drop-off locations are the Bordeaux Mulch Facility and the Omohundro Convenience Center.
  • Hours of Operation Will be: Mon.-Sat. 7:30am-5:00pm and Sun. Noon-4:00pm
  • Acceptable Items Will Include: Recycling, Household Trash, Bulky Items (couches, stoves, etc.), Brush, Tires & Household Hazardous Waste
  • Led by Metro Public Works Engineering, the Project Partners include Rock City Construction Co., Inc. and Triad Environmental Consultants.
  • Project elements include construction, drainage, trees and landscaping.

All convenience centers are closed on Metro holidays:

No commercial or commercially generated waste. No vehicles with commercial tags.


2 visits per day Monday through Saturday and 1 visit per day on Sunday.

Accepted Items


Residential trash; scrap metal; furniture / appliances (refrigerators at East site only); mattress and box springs (any combination 4/month); tires (up to 4/month); small amounts of carpet/carpet pad (East and Omohundro sites only. No stacked pick-up trucks or trailers loads allowed). Carpet pad must be separated from carpet for recycling; small amounts of construction & demolition waste (East and Omohundro sites only); limit: 1/2-ton pickup stacked to top of truck bed. Aluminum & Metal Cans, Glass Bottles (clear, green & brown), Plastic Bottles & Containers (#s 1 - 7), Cardboard, Newspaper & Mixed Paper

Household Hazardous Waste - ACCEPTED AT EAST CENTER ONLY

Cleaners / Solvents, Used Oil / Antifreeze, Batteries, Gas Cylinders, Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, Florescent Tubes/Bulbs, etc.-- Limit: 15 gal. / 100 lb. per household/month.


Cell Phones, Computers and all accessories (limit one computer system per month), DVD/VCR Players, E-Book Readers, Fax Machines, Monitors, Printers, Tablets, Televisions, etc.

Not Accepted

Commercial Waste of any kind, Waste in any commercial vehicle or vehicle with commercial tags, Gas Tanks, Unpainted / Untreated Wood*, Leaves / Brush*, Asbestos (shingles, flooring, etc.), Roofing Shingles, Rock/Brick/Dirt, Medical Waste, Radioactive Material, Ammunition / Flares / Fireworks

* These items may be taken to the Bordeaux Mulching Facility. Residents can also take small amounts of brush and yard waste (no more than a level pickup truck load) to the Omohundro Convenience Center but must follow the guidelines below:

Acceptable: unpainted/untreated wood; limbs and brush; leaves and non-commercial grass clippings only in biodegradable paper bags that are free from any other trash or material. Limbs cannot be more than 4 inches in diameter, longer than 15 feet.

Not Acceptable: No stumps with root balls and dirt accepted.

3 items or less: No Charge
Tires without Rims: No charge (up to 4 tires total/month)
Tires with Rims: $4/each (up to 4 tires total/month)
Small Trailers (less than 4x6x1): $6.00
Standard Pickups (level loads to top of truck rails): $6.00
Stacked Pickup Loads (from top of truck rails to top of cab): $12.00
All Other Loads/Trailers: $12.00 / cubic yard (ALL TRAILERS WILL BE MEASURED AT CENTERS)
