Public Records Commission
The Metropolitan Public Records Commission provides for the orderly disposition of public records of the Metropolitan Government by authorizing Metro government records schedules.
Records schedules in use by Metro departments, agencies, and offices have sufficient authorization for records retention, destruction, or other actions only when they have been approved by the Metro Public Records Commission.
Under Tennessee Code (10-7-401), the Commission is composed of seven members, three of which are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Metro Council. Of these three, one must be a member of the Council, one must be a judge of one of the courts of record in the county, and one must be a genealogist. The county clerk, county register, county historian, and county archivist are ex officio members of the Commission.
Current members of the Commission include:
Ken Fieth (Metro Archivist)
Judge Steve Dozier (Judge of Court of Record)
Bill Venson (Designee of John Arriola - County Clerk)
Brenda Edwards (Designee of Bill Garrett - County Register)
John Connelly (County Historian)
Sam Coleman (Council Member)
The Metropolitan Public Records Commission meets quarterly, at noon on the first Wednesday of each quarter. Due to the holidays, the next meeting will be on January 9, 2008, at the Metropolitan Archives, 3801 Green Hills Village Drive with business commencing at 12:00 noon.
The Metropolitan Clerk and the Metro Archives provide support to the Metropolitan Public Records Commission and serve as custodian of its records.
