How Do I Schedule Records
Metro government records must only be destroyed in accordance with an approved records schedule.
A Records Schedule is a document that…
-
Lists the types of records maintained by each department
-
Specifies a period of time after which destruction is authorized as a matter of policy
-
Identifies the organization’s archival records and mandates their permanent retention
The Metro Public Records Commission approves all records schedules. Records schedules used in Metro government for retention and destruction have sufficient authorization for retention, destruction, and other action only when approved by the Metro Public Records Commission.
The following documents and forms will assist you in developing approved records schedules. In addition, Metro Records Management offers a three-session workshop to help you accomplish this goal. For more information on the workshop, access our training page and look for Records Retention Scheduling Workshop (462).
For a list of all Records Management forms, you may access our Forms page at Records Management Forms.
