Records Retention Scheduling Workshop (462)

The Division of Records Management offers a three-session workshop to assist departments in developing, reviewing, revising, and seeking authorization for records schedules. Records schedules are a fundamental component of the Metro records management program. Metro government records may only be destroyed or retained as set out in an applicable records schedule authorized by the Metro Public Records Commission. This course is one of several records management core courses required for all Metro Records Officers. Other departmental staff may attend in coordination with the departmental Records Officer and the Records Management Division.

Course Content:
·  Understand Metro’s records scheduling process
·  Learn how to identify a “record series”—the unit of records to which retention or destruction is applied
·  Learn how to complete a records scheduling worksheet
·  Learn how to “appraise” records—the methods used to determine how long to keep each record series and when, or if, records may be destroyed
·  Participate in the process for records schedule authorization through the Metro Public Records Commission
