Metro Building Waste Reduction and Recycling
One of Mayor Dean's initiatives has been to expand our own in-house recycling program to all Metro buildings with a goal of 100% employee recycling particiation. Public Works is working with General Services and other Metro departments to provide recycling carts and desk-side recycling bins. Metro employees can recycle paper, cardboard, plastic containers, aluminum and metal cans. See flyer.
Waste reduction is the most important part of our in-house program. Tips for reducing waste help Metro employees to think of ways to avoid creating waste in the first place! Metro pays approximately $30 for every ton of waste that is landfilled so reducing as much waste as possible and recycling the rest will go along way to making us more efficient.
