Do I need to get a permit for work I want to do on my house?
In a Neighborhood Conservation Zoning Overlay, permits are required to construct new buildings, to build an addition to an existing building, to demolish all or part of an existing building, or to move a building into, out-of, or within the overlay.
In addition to the work mentioned above, any exterior alteration to an existing building would require a permit in a Historic Preservation Zoning Overlay. This includes, but is not limited to replacing windows, re-siding, and re-roofing, as well as fences, paving, and other exterior appurtenances.
Historic Landmark Overlays are similar to Historic Preservation Overlays in the types of work that would require a permit.
