What purpose does the Metro Tornado Warning Siren System serve?

The county-wide warning system is used to notify individuals who are outdoors of a tornado warning that has been issued for Davidson County and they need to take cover immediately and get more information from other sources. The sirens may be heard inside of homes and businesses, but that is not their intended purpose.Everyone is encouraged to have a battery-powered NOAA Weather Radio available in their home and to tune to local TV or radio stations to monitor potential severe weather.
