Community Benefits
The long-range biosolids management plan addresses the need to replace equipment and facilities at the end of their useful life, and provides more environmentally friendly solutions for treating and disposing of solids. These solids handling improvements are a significant part of an overall plan to better control plant odors. The following are ways in which the community will benefit from the new system:
- Neighborhoods surrounding the wastewater treatment plants will experience noticeably less odor as we work toward the goal of eliminating off-site odors.
- Fewer trucks will be needed to handle end products, resulting in less traffic to and from the plants.
- The environment will benefit from much less waste hauled to the landfill and the production of a high-grade reusable product, which offers an exciting opportunity for MWS to partner with the private sector.
- The new process is significantly more efficient, which means that operating costs will be lower.
- Rates will not have to increase to fund the project.
