Bordeaux Long-Term Care

Bordeaux Advocates

In 1993, a group of community volunteers approached the former Metropolitan Board of Hospitals about forming a 501(c) (3) corporation to enhance the quality of life for residents at Bordeaux Long Term Care.

Residents enjoying the outdoor parkOn February 4, 1993, 17 men and women chartered themselves as the Bordeaux Advocates with a commitment to support the administrative, patient care and ancillary teams in their provision of quality resident care.

The group’s first major project was the design and development of an outdoor park on the spacious grounds. An outdoor pavilion quickly followed. An awning was added to the Ribeiro Building to protect residents transported by cars or vans from the elements.

Artwork in the commons areaThe most recent enhancement by the Advocates was assisting with the cost to wire the Birmingham and Ribeiro Buildings so residents with televisions in their rooms can receive basic cable television programming at no additional cost.

They also supported the artwork in the commons area and beauty shop areas, giving a town-square feeling to the gathering place for residents and visitors.

Residents enjoying activities and gamesTheAdvocates have also sponsored activities during National Nursing Home Week and their annual Fall Festival provides activities, games and fun for residents and their families. They meet at 11 a.m. the second Thursday of each month. Membership is open to Middle Tennesseans wanting to make a difference in residents’ lives.
