Frequently Asked Questions - Parking

Q1

Do I pay the price on the left side or the right side of the ticket?

A1

If your payment will reach the Traffic Violation Bureau on or before your Compliance Date, pay the amount on the left side of the ticket. If your payment will reach our office after the Compliance Date, pay the amount on the right side of the ticket.

Q2

There was still time left on the meter when I returned to my car but I still got a ticket. What should I do?

A2

You have the option to plead “not guilty” and request a court hearing date where you can explain to the judge what happened. You will need to fill out and sign a copy of the Pleading Not Guilty form and put it in your envelope, mark the form of action “B - Request Hearing Date” on the front side of your envelope and send it to the Traffic Violation Bureau’s mailing address within 30 days from the date your citation was issued. You will receive your court date assignment in the mail at the address you provide on the form.

Q3

If I pay this ticket, does it go on my driving record?

A3

No, violations written on parking citations are not reported to the Department of Safety.

Q4

I forgot to hang my handicapped placard in the window when I parked my car and I got a ticket. What should I do?

A4

If you were ticketed at a parking meter or a parking space reserved for handicapped drivers, make a copy of your valid handicapped placard and send it to the Traffic Violation Bureau’s mailing address in the envelope provided with your citation within 45 days from the date your citation was issued. If you provide proof of a valid placard on or before your Compliance Date, you will not have to pay the fine. However, if you were parked in a tow-away zone, loading zone or fire lane, you are still responsible for the fine.

Q5

The officer wrote the violation on the bottom of my ticket and there’s no fine amount. How do I find out how much I owe?

A5

You may call our office at the number listed on our “Contact Us” page and we will be happy to assist you.
