Metro Traffic Citations

Stop Light

A Metro traffic citation may contain up to five individual violations, each of which is treated separately. For example, a motorist who receives a citation with two violations may plead guilty to and pay one of the violations but plead not guilty and request a court date on the other violation. How To Satisfy Your Metro Traffic Citation

All Metro traffic citations contain an Issuance Date, which is the date that the citation was written. Violators are given forty-five (45) calendar days from this date to pay their citations, plead not guilty and request a court date or apply for Traffic School.

The citation must be satisfied by this “Compliance Date” in order to avoid the imposition of additional fees, driver’s license suspension and referral to the Traffic Warrant Division for collection by wage garnishment or levy of property. For instructions on calculating your Compliance Date, click here.

In order to satisfy a particular violation, a traffic offender must take one of the following three possible actions:

  1. Plead guilty and pay all fines and fees;
  2. Plead not guilty and request a court hearing;
  3. Plead guilty and apply for defensive driving school.
