Terry Cobb elected to International Code Council Board of Directors

Terrence L. Cobb, Director of the Department of Codes & Building Safety for Nashville and Davidson County, has been re-elected to serve a second term
to the International Code Council (ICC) Board of Directors.

A member of Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI), Cobb currently serves on the SBCCI Board of Directors. He is a director of the Home Builders Association of Middle Tennessee and the National Association of Home Builders. He has served as chair of the International Residential Code Drafting Committee and the International Residential Code Building and Energy Code Development Committee. A Certified Building Official, Cobb has earned recognition as the Tennessee Building Official of the Year.

The ICC is a membership service association that develops building safety codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings including housing and schools. ICC also provides technical and educational services to the construction industry.

Members of the nation’s three leading building safety groups—Building Officials and Code Administrators, International (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) and Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI)—recently voted to combine those three organizations into the ICC.

The ICC was founded in 1994 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing a single set of comprehensive and coordinated national model construction codes. More than 97% of U.S. cities, counties and states that adopt codes choose building and fire codes created by the three building safety groups that make up the ICC. BOCA, ICBO and SBCCI have more than 190 years of collective experience developing codes. ICC Codes are used across America and around the world. The development of I-Codes without regional limitations responds to the needs of the construction industry and has strong backing from code enforcement officials, architects, engineers, builders, developers, and building owners and managers.
