Metro awarded Constellation Energy Projects & Services Group (CEPS) (formerly Constellation Energy Source) of Baltimore, Md., the contract to design, build, operate, and maintain the Metro Nashville District Energy System. The staff of CEPS responsible for the design and operations of the new DES has been involved in the development of many other district energy plants, including those in Chicago, Boston, New Orleans and the Baltimore District Steam system.
CEPS worked with several local firms to assist in the development of the new DES facility: Nashville Machine Company as the mechanical constructor, R.C. Mathews as the construction manager, Smith Seckman Reid as the design engineer, Everton Oglesby Askew as the architect and Travis Electric as the electrical contractor.
CEPS will manage, operate and maintain the DES for 15 years, with options for three additional five-year extensions. The DES remains under the ownership of Metro.
CEPS, doing business as Nashville District Energy, LLC, will manage, operate and maintain the Energy Generation Facility (EGF) as well as the DES for 15 years, with options for three additional five-year extensions. The DES remains under the ownership of Metro.
