How does it work?
At the Metro Nashville DES facility, natural gas and electricity are used to produce steam, hot water, and chilled water. The steam or water is then distributed through a series of underground pipes to almost 40 individual buildings in the downtown area. These buildings don't need their own boilers or furnaces, hot water heaters, chillers or air conditioners; the DES does that work for them.
