Emergency Communications Center Collects Donations For Domestic Violence Victims

Three local shelters benefit from generosity

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Metro Nashville Emergency Communications Center staff opened their hearts and wallets this month to assist victims of domestic violence, Director Duane Phillips announced today.

During the first week of September, ECC operations and administrative staff donated new blankets and new or gently-used coats to benefit domestic violence victims at Nashville-area shelters.  A total of 139 blankets and 28 coats were collected and delivered to Morning Star Sanctuary, Ujima House and the Davidson County YWCA shelter.  These important facilities provide domestic violence victims and their children with a temporary place of safety and shelter.

“ECC call takers and dispatchers provide help and reassurance to citizens with life-threatening emergencies every time they come to work,” Phillips said.  “However, they strive to do more for their community and take it upon themselves to hold charitable events on a regular basis.”

A canned food donation drive to benefit the women’s mission is planned for October and a winter coat drive will take place in November.
