Filing Assistance
Filing Assistance is important!
This year you may be able to file electronically for free! The Internal Revenue Service has entered into partnership agreements with several commercial tax software and tax preparation companies to foster electronic filing. Some of these partners plan to allow free electronic filing for anyone who is eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. The list of participating companies and links to their sites may found at Free Internet Filing Opportunities.
Our initiative won't be effective if taxpayers don't file for the credit. Moreover, if filers have to turn to commercial tax preparation services, they forfeit a portion of their refund. That's why expanding access to free tax preparation services is crucial to the success of our effort.
Volunteer at one of Nashville's VITA sites
VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. It is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The VITA program offers free tax help to people who cannot afford paid professional assistance. Assistance is provided at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations.
