Citizens' Guide to the Metro Budget
How to Navigate this Guide

This web site gives citizens access to the 2002-2003 budget for Metro Government of Nashville and Davidson County. Several features are available to help you find information that is interesting to you.

General Budget Information
For general information about the budget, click the links in the left navigation. To find out more information about a particular item in a pie chart, click the text in the image. If more information is available, a pop-up window with more information will be displayed or you will be directed to another page.

The Budget Book
The budget book is presented in PDF format. When you click on a link to the budget book, it may take a few minutes to download the PDF file. Also, when the file opens, there may be a short delay while your computer finds the bookmarked location in the file. After you are finished reading a section in the Budget Book, click the Back button on your Internet browser to return to the budget web site.

Department Level Information
To find budget information about a specific department, use the drop-down lists to the left. Information about both the operating budget and the capital improvements budget is available. When you view a department page, you will see a departmental organizational chart, links below it and a box containing contact information.

The links inside the organizational chart give you more information about a specific division in the department. The links below the organizational chart give you more information about a department's budget including the following:

  • At a Glance
    This is a Basic narrative that describes the department and summarizes its budget.
  • Budget Highlights
    This is a list of changes in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2003 budget.
  • Capital Improvements Budget
    This is the department's listing in the Capital Improvements Budget. Some departments do not have a capital improvement budget.
  • Budget Performance
    This section measures achievement of objectives for each significant activity or service, with projected targets for FY 2003.

The box at the bottom of the department page gives you easy access to contact information for the department including the following:

  • Departmental web site (if it exists)
  • E-mail links to the department head and the budget contact
  • Phone numbers
  • Physical mailing address

If you find a budget word that is not familiar to you, check the glossary. Most of the budget key words are defined here. If you do not find the word in the glossary, send an e-mail to OMB@nashville.gov. The budget office staff will get back with you as soon as they can.
