Highlights
& Results
- The
attack on America has led to a renewed emphasis on what is now referred
to as Homeland Security. The Mayors Office of Emergency
Management has begun a multi-year strategic plan for improving Metro's
homeland security posture.
- The
Fire Department decreased response times of advanced life support Emergency
Medical Services an average of 25% from the prior year.
- Metro
Public Health programs resulted in the decline of Syphilis cases from
210 (1998) to 77 (2001).
- The Police
Department efforts resulted in a significant reduction in the overall
crime rate as demonstrated by the lowest number of homicides since 1990;
the lowest number of reported rapes since 1986; and, the lowest probability
of being a victim of aggravated assault since 1992.
Plans
for Next Year
- Office
of Emergency Management plans to continue to improve homeland security
measures and align Metros activities with national priorities.

The Fire
Department will continue improvements to service delivery by executing
additional elements of the Emergency Medical Services Master Plan.

The Metro
Public Health Department will have an increased capacity to respond
more effectively to emergencies through enhanced community surveillance
and the recommendation of additional resources devoted to bio-terrorism
preparedness
