Audit Savings

Performance and financial audits have identified savings of $80.8 million dollars. Actual real dollar savings to date are $17.4 million with a return on investment (ROI) of 6 to 1. The largest savings have been in a recent settlement which returned $10 million to the Metro employee pension fund and paid all of our legal costs-another $300,000. Metro will realize savings from our most recent audit of state sales taxes which will capture for Nashville $2.4 million for this year's operating budget and $1.5 million every year hereafter

While the financial benefits realized from these audits are clearly outstanding, improvements to public safety, enhanced internal controls and more effective operations across several departments as directed by audit recommendations are strengthening Metro's capacity to more effectively manage our operations.

The cost of doing business is going down while productivity and efficiency are on the rise. Chipper service in Nashville has increased collection by 60% while cutting the cost per ton of the same service by one third.
